El Banco Central de Bolivia (BCB) afirmó, mediante un comunicado, que la sanción del Departamento del Tesoro de Estados Unidos no tiene impacto ni afecta la actividad bancaria del Prodem, ni a su relación con ente emisor.
La semana pasada EEUU sancionó al banco estatal Bandes de Venezuela y a sus filiales, incluyendo el Prodem de Bolivia, como represalia por la detención del Jefe de Despacho de Juan Guaidó, Roberto Marrero.
Según el BCB, la sanción implica el congelamiento de todos los activos e intereses en propiedad directa o indirecta que se encuentren en los Estados Unidos o en posesión o control de personas estadounidenses, además de la prohibición de toda transacción financiera con individuos o entidades estadounidenses, o en tránsito en ese país.
El Banco Central sostuvo que esa sanción “no tiene impacto, tomando en cuenta que de acuerdo con los datos de la Autoridad de Supervisión del Sistema Financiero (ASFI), el Banco Prodem S.A. sólo tiene menos del 1% del total de sus activos en cuentas del exterior. Asimismo, la entidad financiera no realiza operaciones de comercio exterior”.
La ASFI y el mismo Prodem ya emitieron por separado sus respectivos comunicados en los cuales, al igual que el BCB, afirman que las actividades de la entidad bancaria no se verán afectadas.
No obstante, el Gobierno de Nicolás Maduro, mediante su Cancillería, aseveró que la sanción de EEUU afecta de manera directa a los clientes de las filiales de Bandes, incluyendo el Prodem.
