Argentina retrocede en materia social y la pobreza se dispara en el último tramo de la gestión del Presidente, Mauricio Macri. Durante el segundo semestre de 2018, el 32% de la población urbana argentina quedó bajo el umbral de la pobreza. Fue un aumento de casi cinco puntos respecto al primer semestre y de más de seis puntos si se compara con el 25,7% de 2017.
El 32% actual supuso volver al mismo nivel que Macri dijo haber heredado de Cristina Fernández. Con la continua devaluación del peso y con una inflación que no afloja, al presidente no le queda otra opción que insistir en que los sacrificios valen la pena. Según él, por primera vez se establecen las bases para un futuro crecimiento sólido.
Frente a este escenario, Macri mantiene su política gradual de ajuste y reclama a los argentinos más aguante. “Tienen que aguantar, yo estoy convencido de lo que hago”, dijo el 1 de marzo ante la Asamblea Legislativa.
Hay indigencia
El Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Censos mide la pobreza en 31 ciudades argentinas (las sociedades rurales no se incluyen) y tiene en cuenta factores esenciales como las carencias en alimentación, vivienda y salud.
El informe que acaba de publicar indica que cerca del 65% de los pobres son niños y adultos menores de 30 años y que, dentro de la pobreza, la indigencia afecta al 6,7% de la población urbana. Los nuevos datos demuestran que en seis meses casi 2,7 millones de personas han caído en la pobreza y que todo lo progresado desde el inicio del mandato de Macri se ha desvanecido con la recesión iniciada a mediados del pasado año.
El cuadro macroeconómico es sombrío. La inflación se mantiene rampante y para el mes de marzo no se espera un alza inferior al 4%; la subida de precios es especialmente cruel para los hogares más modestos, donde tienen más incidencia los alimentos y servicios básicos: en ese renglón, los precios subieron en febrero un 5,1%, frente al 3,8% general. El desempleo cerró 2018 en el 9% (casi cuatro millones de personas). En el último trimestre de 2018, el Producto Interior Bruto cayó un 3,5%. Todo esto va acompañado por una degradación de la seguridad ciudadana.
