Estados Unidos anunció ayer que empezará a imponer sanciones a todo país, incluyendo aliados como India, que compre crudo a Irán, un nuevo paso en su lucha contra Teherán que podría tensar sus relaciones internacionales.
Uno de los países afectados, Turquía, prometió desobedecer la orden de Washington, que provocó un estallido de los precios globales, aunque el presidente Donald Trump dijo que Arabia Saudita y otros aliados de Washington compensarán la caída de la oferta petrolera.
Con estas medidas, que específicamente ponen fin a las exenciones que permitían a ocho países seguir comprando crudo a Irán, Trump busca “llevar a cero las exportaciones” de petróleo iraní y “privar al régimen de su principal fuente de ingresos”, anunció la Casa Blanca.
Las amenazas de sanciones abren un nuevo frente de fricciones en las relaciones ya tensas de Washington con Pekín y Ankara.
“No aceptamos sanciones unilaterales e imposiciones sobre cómo estableceremos relaciones con nuestros vecinos”, aseguró en respuesta a la amenaza el ministro de Relaciones Exteriores turco, Mevlut Cavusoglu, que añadió que la medida no ayudará a la “paz y la estabilidad regional”.
La medida es especialmente delicada para India, aliada estratégica de Washington y tercer importador mundial de crudo, que ya enfrenta presiones de EEUU para dejar de comprar petróleo a Venezuela, en la lucha de Trump para derrocar al mandatario Nicolás Maduro.
“Si no respetan esto, habrá sanciones”, advirtió el secretario de Estado, Mike Pompeo. “Tenemos la intención de aplicar las sanciones”, insistió.
