Las autoridades estadounidenses incautaron uno de los mayores cargamentos de cocaína de la historia de Estados Unidos, unas 16,5 toneladas con un valor de calle de más de 1.000 millones de dólares que llegaron a Filaldelfia en barco.
La Fiscalía del distrito este de la ciudad informó en su cuenta Twitter que «los miembros de la tripulación han sido arrestados e inculpados a nivel federal».
La carga fue incautada en la terminal marina Packer del puerto de Filadelfia, sobre el río Delaware.
«Esta es una de las mayores incautaciones de droga en la historia de Estados Unidos. Este monto de cocaína puede matar a millones, MILLONES, de personas», dijo el fiscal del distrito este de Pensilvania, William McSwain, en su cuenta Twitter.
Según la televisión NBC News, la carga estaba escondida en siete contenedores en el barco MSC Gayane, que provenía de Chile, Panamá y Bahamas.
Según el diario Philadelphia Inquirer, el barco tenía a Europa como destino final.
El 11 de marzo pasado, las autoridades anunciaron la mayor incautación de cocaína en el puerto de Nueva York/Newark en un cuarto de siglo: unos 1.455 kilos de cocaína colombiana escondidos en un contenedor, con un precio callejero estimado en 77 millones de dólares.
La inmensa mayoría de la cocaína incautada en Estados Unidos es colombiana.
