Las pruebas de maratón para hombres y mujeres en los Juegos Panamericanos 2019 que se celebran en Lima tuvieron como ganadores a dos atletas locales.
Los peruanos Christian Pacheco y Gladys Tejeda se llevaron este sábado las medallas de oro en esta disciplina y, además, alcanzaron nuevos récords a nivel panamericano.
Pacheco corrió los 42 kilómetros de la maratón en 2 horas, 10 minutos y 41 segundos. Tejeda, por su parte, acabó en 2 horas, 30 minutos y 55 segundos.
Las anteriores mejores marcas panamericanas de maratón pertenecían a la brasileña Adriana Aparecida da Silva desde 2015, y al puertorriqueño Jorge González desde 1983.
La estadounidense Bethany Sachtleben y la colombiana Anjie Orjuela Soche se llevaron las medallas de plata y bronce, respectivamente, en la maratón para mujeres celebrada este sábado.
Los mexicanos José Luis Marín Santana y Juan Pacheco quedaron en segundo y tercer puesto en la rama masculina.
Los Panamericanos 2019 se celebran del 24 de julio al 11 de agosto en Lima.
Para la peruana Tejeda, de 33 años, el triunfo en esta edición de los Juegos fue una «revancha», según declaró a medios locales.
En los Panamericanos anteriores celebrados en 2015 en Toronto, Canadá, la atleta obtuvo el oro en maratón, pero perdió la medalla y fue suspendida por seis meses tras arrojar resultados positivos en una prueba antidopaje.
«Por negligencia se perdió esa medalla, pero ahora la logramos en casa», aseguró este sábado.
