El exdirector de la Fuerza Especial de Lucha Contra el Crimen, Gonzalo Medina, en su declaración en la audiencia de medidas cautelares que se realizó en abril, manifestó que conoció a Pedro Montenegro, buscado por el delito de narcotráfico, en una reunión convocada por un Comandante Departamental y cuestionó que los «comandantes» no sean investigados ya que varias unidades policiales lo condecoraron por la construcción de un frontón para la Policía Boliviana.
Medina y del exdirector de la División Patrimonio de la Fuerza Especial de Lucha Contra el Crimen de Santa Cruz, ambos detenidos en el penal de San Pedro, prestaron su declaración en la audiencia de medidas cautelares el 24 de abril en el Juzgado Décimo de Instrucción en lo Penal de esa ciudad.
Como mi abogado decía, tendrán que cobrarles a varios eso, es verdad, a varios comandantes, porque yo lo conocí en una reunión convocada por un Comandante Departamental, porque ese señor con su esposa construyó –usted me dirá- por qué lo condecoró, porque construyeron un frontón para la Policía a instancias del Comando Departamental, un frontón donde va a jugar el actual Comandante Departamental, van a jugar todos los comandantes y se hizo una pequeña recepción, ahí lo conocí”, se lee en su declaración.
Medina cuestionó que el ministro de Gobierno, Carlos Romero, le diera de “baja con ignominia” por condecorar con el “emblema de oro” a Montenegro, no obstante, precisó que “todos los comandos lo condecoraron, es una tarea del Comando Departamental, Comando General, en todos los comandos de todas las unidades policiales: Diprove, la misma Interpol, todos lo condecoraron”, aunque no precisó nombres de acuerdo al documento al que accedió ANF.
