El presidente del Tribunal Supremo de Justicia (TSJ), José Antonio Revilla, anunció la mañana del jueves que el recurso de casación en favor de Gabriela Zapata había sido admitido. Más tarde, el presidente de la Sala Penal, Olvis Égüez, lo desmintió e informó que fue declarado inadmisible. Al final de la jornada, cuando se disipó la confusión, quedó claro que la justicia boliviana, en su última instancia de apelación, cerró el caso de la ex novia del presidente Evo Morales, ratificando la condena de 10 años de prisión que cumple en el penal de Miraflores, de La Paz, por tráfico de influencias, luego de que el Gobierno adjudicó millonarios contratos a la empresa china CAMC, de la que fue gerente.
El abogado de Zapata, Jorge Tamayo, advirtió que es una decisión injusta. “Mi defendida acreditó plenamente los antecedentes contradictorios para acudir a la casación y no fue valorado correctamente por la sala”.
El juzgado I de Sentencia de La Paz la condenó en primera instancia por los delitos de legitimación de ganancias ilícitas, asociación delictuosa, falsedad ideológica, uso de instrumento falsificado, contribuciones y ventajas ilegítimas y uso de bienes y servicios públicos, decisión que fue ratificada por la Sala Penal Segunda de la sede de Gobierno y ahora por el Tribunal Supremo de Justicia,
