El Departamento de Tesoro de Estados Unidos emitió sanciones contra Jorge Arreaza, canciller de Nicolás Maduro, y la juez Carol Padilla apuntada por los procesos contra opositores venezolanos”.
“Estados Unidos no se quedará mirando mientras el régimen ilegítimo de Maduro priva al pueblo venezolano de su riqueza, humanidad y derecho a la democracia”, dijo el Secretario del Tesoro, Steven Mnuchin.
Acotó que EEUU seguirá atacando al entorno que considera corrupto de Maduro, “incluidos los encargados de dirigir la diplomacia y hacer justicia en nombre de este régimen ilegítimo”.
La sanción implica el congelamiento de las propiedades y activos de estas personas en Estados Unidos. Además se prohíbe a ciudadanos del país norteamericano a que hagan negocios con los sancionados.
El canciller Arreaza, mediante Twitter, respondió que ese tipo de reacciones le dan más fuerza para luchar. “Ayer en la ONU denunciamos de forma irrefutable el bloqueo criminal de EEUU contra Venezuela. Hoy la administración Trump responde con desespero contra nosotros ¡Les duele la verdad!”, publicó.
La juez sancionada fue responsable de procesamientos a opositores venezolanos, siendo el último caso la orden de allanamiento contra Roberto Marrero, jefe de gabinete de Juan Guaidó, según medios venezolanos.
